SECONDARY COORDINATOR

Hello Students and Families,

The secondary students have been working really hard this term in all subject areas! It’s fantastic to see them putting in such a great effort.

We have introduced our new ‘House Points’ system, where the students are awarded points for their houses for anything positive that they do in the school yard or in their classrooms. The students have embraced that and have hit the ground running, with many points earned in the first few weeks. This shows their competitive nature, and their desire to win. The end result will be a House Cup which will be awarded to the winning house, and a prize for each student in that house. This system applies across all year levels, from Foundation right through to the Secondary school.

As we are a Sun Smart school, it is imperative that all students wear a hat when they are out in the sun. Term 1 and Term 4 are our hot terms, and hats are compulsory during this time. If a student does not bring a hat, they will need to sit on the seats in the shaded area and will not be able to play in the sun. We will also be asking students to apply sunscreen before going into the yard to ensure that they are well protected from the harsh Australian sun.

Again, I must reiterate the importance of the school uniform. The school hat, as mentioned above, is mandatory. This is a blue, wide-brimmed hat with the school logo on it and is available for purchase from the front office. School shoes must be black leather. Girls must wear the tartan skirt and striped Sirius College school shirt, plus Sirius College blazer and/or vest. Boys are required to wear grey pants, striped Sirius College school shirt, plus Sirius College blazer and/or vest. Socks should be white or black. Any head scarves worn must be white only.

Miss Meagan Height and Miss Funda Avan, along with our Pastoral Care Coordinator, Mr. Sinan Baydogan, have organised an exciting and fun-filled Urban Camp for our grades 5 – 8 students. All students are invited to attend, and should have received a note home for this, however any students who choose not to come are still required to be at school on those days, and will have their usual classes during that time.

Parent Teacher Interviews will be held in the final week of term. This is your chance to raise any questions or concerns that you might have with your child’s progress, or even just to let the teacher know anything about your child that we might not already know, and could be important to their learning. Please try to make a time to see us on either day so that we can speak with you about the wonderful achievements that your child is making in class. Interviews will be held on March 29th and 30th. Details of how to book your timeslot are in this newsletter.

We have some important dates coming up for secondary students. These are as follows:

Please continue to enjoy the year, and if you have any questions or need to let us know anything, please don’t hesitate to contact us at the school.

Kind regards,

Mrs. Sara Cartwright
